Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release
Release deep held tension and increase mobility
Service Description
Myofascia or fascia is a layer of tissue which connects and supports your spine and muscles. It wraps around and links internal parts of the body in bands, fusing it all together. Working with fascia rather than just the muscles is often the ‘missing link’ in healthcare in relieving pain and headaches and increasing range of motion. When we move in repetitive patterns, fascia can mould and secure into those repeated patterns. If your posture remains the same for any length of time, the fascia will bind and lay down more collagen. Injuries, stress, trauma, overuse and poor posture cause restriction the fascia which shortens, solidifies, and thickens, causing the body to lose its physiological adaptive capacity and pliability. Myofascial therapy relieves this pain by applying gentle pressure on the sore muscles over a sustained period of time. This therapy works out muscle tension, relieves pain and increases flexibility. Myofascial Release (MFR) involves a gentle, sustained pressure, which is held for at least 2-3 minutes. Thanks to a property called ‘thixotropy’, relaxing those tense muscles requires slow, steady application of pressure. Thixotropy is a way of describing a gel-like substance acting as a solid when a fast force is applied to it, while also acting as a liquid when a slow force is applied. The thixotropic nature of our muscles means that to sink into those deeper areas of tension or to get through one muscle and into another, a therapist must apply slow, steady pressure to truly access those layers of your body. Myofascial release offers a host of benefits to your health and well-being, including: • Reduces soreness and improves tissue recovery • Improves neuromuscular efficiency • Increases blood flow • Maintains normal functional muscular length • Improves joint range of motion • Decreases overall effects of stress on the body • Encourages movement of your lymph, helping your body better fight infection • Restores optimal-length-tension relationships for dynamic movement exercises
